Retired Priest
Very Reverend Protopresbyter Cornel Avramescu
Very Reverend Protopresbyter Cornel Avramescu immigrated with his family to the United States from Romania in 1985. With the blessings of Archbishop Nathaniel, he founded on July 19, 1985 the Mission “Saint Peter and Paul”. The name of the mission was changed one year later, to Mission “Saint Mary” with the feast of Dormition of Mother of God. The Mission “St.Mary” was incorporated to ROEA in 1986. In 1989, the Mission St.Mary bought a plot of land in Anaheim where the new church was going to be built. The building of the church started in 1991. Through hard work, dedication and sacrifice of Fr. Cornel, P-sa Eugenia, and parishioners that were at the time members of the parish- the church has been built, painted and furnished with everything needed to meet the ecclesiastical requirements of Christian Orthodoxy. The church construction was finished in 1996, when His Grace Archbishop Nathaniel held the first Hierarchical Liturgy. The church was consecrated in November 2011 by a group of 5 Archbishops. Fr. Cornel and P-sa Eugenia have two sons: Cornel and Eugen.
